Fire Challenge
This is the official page for the fire challenge.
Rules and Information
Each person can make as many 12"x12" blocks. The theme is to represent how fires may have affected you, family or friends. It can be realistic, impressionistic, abstract, whatever.
I wanted to help somehow with those affected by the fires more than I ( if you click on "sketchbook and blog" on my home page you can read my personal ordeal). So I started this challenge. How are or have you been affected by a fire or just a fire themed block. Anything goes. If you have friends who want to enter but are not on Quiltart they still can join. Just point them to this email or my website.
Make it on a 12"x12" block, put batting and backing fabric and quilt it to a 1/4" from the edge.
Send it to me at
Anji Visser, 3362 Jessica St., Newbury Park, Ca 91320
. I will take pictures of the blocks and post them
Deadline is December 1st.
There will be a contest and people from Quiltart get to vote for the best block. That person gets a 16"x20" pet portrait from yours truly, me. If you don't have a pet then we will work something else out. If you do not want your block judged tell me and I will not include it. Some get upset if a contest is involved.
The voting will last 1 week from Dec. 1 to Dec. 7.
At which time me and some helpers (any volunteers in the northern Los Angeles area) will use a quilt-as-you-go technique to sew the blocks together.
We will then auction the quilt off on Ebay (get your friends and family members to see it when it is done and I am going to promote it, and put out press releases) and the proceeds will go to the Southern California Wildfire Relief Fund, Malibu Pet Companions (it was their Vet Hospital damaged in the Malibu fire and the group that helps fund my elderly and sick cat hospice and other animal rescues in Malibu, Agoura, Thousand Oaks and surrounding areas) and After-the-Fires-Fund in San Diego.
If you have anymore questions please email me. I want to see all those great blocks!
Email me if you want to join at
anji@purrmeowdesigns.com
.
Send your block to me at: Anji Visser
3362 Jessica St.
Newbury Park, CA 91320
As I get them I will take a picture of them and post them on this page for all to see.
